Choosing an Event that match your vibe

Imagine this, you get to an event and realize you’re the only one that actually came for the event, others came for the selfies and content.

Now your energy level has drained faster than an iPhone with a terrible battery life. As bad as that sounds, maybe, just maybe, you didn’t choose the right event.

Choosing the right event is like trying out a new restaurant. If you pick the wrong food, you’re stuck with regrets instead of a good time.

We don’t want that for you, so here’s how to choose an event that matches your energy.

First of All, Know Your Energy

Man knows thyself, so think about it before saying yes to that invitation. Are you a high-energy person who knows how to drop the trending dance moves on stage without stress, or are you someone who gets tired the moment they see more than three people at a place?

Know what works for you. Is it an event at the club, or a concert at the beach? Are you the type that when it comes to weddings and birthdays, you no dey carry last? You’ll flourish at a social event if this is your vibe.

A business event type of vibe is for those of you who love to network, buy or sell, and pull out your Queen’s English skills when needed. These include events like conferences, trade fairs, seminars, and product launches.

And for some of us who are introverts, we’ll keep sticking with virtual events for now.

Know Your Financial Energy and Budget

Don’t go there and start shouting “but bottled water is N200 outside na”. They know and they expect you to know too. From the event ticket price and the type of event, you’ll know whether you can afford to go or not..

Know your budget so you don’t get stranded because prices may be hiked at social events, and for business events like trade fairs, you might see things you’ll like to buy.

For some weddings, the matching outfits or Aso Ebi will be the first thing to eat deep into your pocket before you also realize you’ll still be spending more than expected there.

Instagram is Lying To You

That event you’ve been wanting to go to, you’ve checked their IG Page, and the vibe is giving. Let me be a wet blanket and tell you that it might not be like that.

Most times, you’ll either see that almost everyone is on their phone, instead of being there in the moment, or the vibe is only personal to those who came with their friend group.

Alright, let me stop being a killjoy and say for social events, go with a friend so you don’t end up looking lost. Except that’s your vibe.

Future You Is Watching

Try not to end up at a Diddy party. Don’t just say yes to any event because you’ve heard there’ll be plenty of baddies there, or the guys coming are big boys in town.

Be sure you get a backstory of what really goes down. Remember, “if you can’t explain it, don’t attend it”. Before you end up trending for the wrong reasons on X(formerly Twitter)

Preparing for Family Events

greetings at a family event

Most times, ghosting family events is not the best option unless it is the only option. Prepare your comebacks and get ready for the “When will you marry?” “What’re you doing now?” questions.

Also, prepare to survive endless rounds of forced selfies, dance-offs, and unsolicited life advice to issues that money can solve.

If you survive without running away, congratulations! It’s either you’re good at dodging or you’re everyone’s favorite person.

Art Events

If you’re going for an art event, then have it at the back of your mind that the next thing being shown off after the art is the drip.

Here you’ll see different types of drips that’ll make you question your fashion sense, but don’t panic, prepare ahead, and dress well enough so you don’t look like you missed your way to the market.

Look at yourself, you’re a work of art, so dress like it.

Business Events

You’ll need to walk in armed with a stack of business cards and a smile so wide it shows from behind. Prepare for questions like “What do you do?” and get ready for small talk and proposals that’ll make you consider working in HR.

If physical networking is not your vibe, don’t worry, you can attend virtual events from home and still have the chance to network effectively.
