The Most Interesting Stories On Nigerian Social Media This Week (June 16- 22, 2024)

It’s easy to imagine that not much happened this week as all we are looking forward to is the wedding of the 30BG kingpin, Davido and his baby mama, Chioma. 

However, a lot of festivities took place; from Ojude Oba (cultural celebration), to Ileya (religious celebration), it was endless fun fare and cruise. In case you missed all these, let me quickly bring you up to speed.

While Ileya is a religious celebration, the fact that it comes with a minimum of 2 days public holiday (an average working Lagosian can relate) coupled with the free ram meat that just always makes its way around, makes the celebration one that people look forward to, almost like a national celebration.  

However, sapa tested us and tried to rob us of the joy of this celebration with the unimaginable costs of things in the market but as Nigerians that we are now, we no gree. The people still went all out and celebrated with maximum steeze. 

From the endless drips of fashionistas, to the people who wouldn’t let the inability to afford a ram stop them, to those who actually got the ram and the ram ran away. It was a fun time to get together with friends and family, celebrating our shared beliefs, culture and the joys of life…Meanwhile, did you get ram meat? 

Some people couldn’t afford to buy ram and they were considering other alternatives. 

Some got the ram but it had a mind of its own and was determined to outlive the occasion. 

With all the festivities that happened this week, I’m sure if rams had an opportunity at life again, they’ll probably rethink their choice of coming to Nigeria. 

Space Exploration 

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and SERA

If you’d like to go to space, there’s hope for you. Our FG has said they’ll soon send a Nigerian to space  after signing an agreement with the space exploration and research agency (SERA). 

This is a move in the right direction. The MOU signed between the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and SERA aims to drive the development of critical infrastructure and technologies required for human missions beyond Earth and will also see a Nigerian land in space.

We might not be where we want to be but baby steps, yeah?

Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Doings

Babajide Sanwo-Olu gifts10 million Naira to the best graduating student of LASU, Olawale Olaniyi

Congratulations are in order as the best graduating student of LASU, Olawale Olaniyi,  who finished with a CGPA of 4.98 in Accounting Education, got a gift of 10 million Naira from the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Well, we won’t need a committee to advise him on how the money should be spent since he’s mastered the art of accounting.

Ojude Oba

When Yoruba people party, they go hard! This was one of the most anticipated events of the year and boy, did it give? It was massive! The people came out wearing various colorful traditional attires with accessories to match from head to toe, each family/association distinguishing themselves from the next with their unique aso-ebis.

People showed up and showed out but one man killed the show with premium steeze, Farooq Oreagba; the investment banker turned Zaddy, with banging tattoos and the composure of a screen god. 

While everyone was busy enjoying the display of pomp and pageantry, I couldn’t help calculating how much money went into organizing or attending this kind of event and it is interesting to note that the cost is breathtaking. I hope the government sees the multiple possibilities here…

For context, Ojude Oba is an annual event where indigenous people of Ijebu in Ogun state, Nigeria, come together to show support and appreciation for their King, celebrating their heritage and giving back to their society. Sons and daughters of the soil travel in from far and wide to grace this occasion.

Davido has taken his “assurance” to the next level by putting three Rolls Royces, sorry, a ring on it and he’s set to tie the knot in a few days. Invites have been dropping left, right and centre but some of us haven’t gotten ours and the wedding is almost here. What is really happening? 

I heard some people are selling the invites for about 5 -10 million. It’ll be nice to buy o with a payment plan spanning 3 years or more. My destiny helper might be at the wedding. 

Meanwhile, a surprise bridal shower was held for ChefChi and 001 graced the occasion. It was beautiful to see the lovers doing their thing. At the end of the day love is sweet o…..when money enter love is sweeter!
